10derized Bourbon Steak
This recipe is our own rendition of the Honey Bourbon Steak Tips by Christin Mahrlig found on the Spicy Southern Kitchen website. We're making a couple small changes, but you're more than welcome to follow Christin's recipe, if you prefer.
Our first difference is the removal of the brown sugar from the recipe. We'll also be reducing the amount of honey from a 1/3 cup to 1/4 cup. If you like an extremely sweet tasting steak, then you'll be fine with the original version of this recipe; we prefer less sweet.
Another difference includes the use of the 10derizer on the steak before cutting it into cubes (makes for really tender steak - regardless of the steak cut).
- Salt and fresh ground pepper
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/3 cup bourbon
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 pounds steak (we typically use top sirloin, but you can use any steak cut)
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 Tbsp butter, divided
- 1 (6 ounce) package mushrooms, cut in quarters
After the steak has been given a chance to come to room temperature, place it on a cutting board. Salt and pepper one side of the steak and use the 10derizer to work the salt and pepper internal to the steak. Repeat this step on the other side of the steak. Let the steak sit for 10-15 minutes before cutting into cubed pieces.
Cut steak into cubed pieces (we prefer bite-size cubes, but you can make them bigger if you'd like). Set steak cubes aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, bourbon, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, and garlic. Pour into a large zip lock bag. Add steak cubes and refrigerate no less than 2 hours, and not more than 4-5 hours.
Heat vegetable oil and 2 tablespoons butter in a cast iron pan over medium-high heat.
Add steak cubes. You might need to cook it in two batches because you don't want to crowd the pan. Cook until steak cubes are seared on all sides. Remove from pan. Add remaining butter to pan and cook mushrooms until browned.
Enjoy your steak bites with your favorite potato dish and a side course of vegetables.
